May. 22, 2012 – International production company Savage has signed directing team Honest for US and global representation.
“The philosophy behind Savage continues to be successful,” explains Savage Executive Producer/Founder Pavla Burgetova. “Honest adds even more value to our roster with an ability to work across traditional and digital platforms. Savage continue to offer agencies opportunities to work in the US and abroad using great production value.”
Honest are a multi-award winning directorial duo consisting of Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion. The team initially working together in design and motion graphics before writing and directed influential films for the Nike “Art of Speed” and Diesel “Dream” campaigns – work that revealed an ability to create genre-defying material in tandem with tongue-in-cheek humor.
More Nike projects followed, as did work for Panasonic and MSN. Their viral sensation Rapcat for Checkers is one that’s hard to miss, as is their wry comedic campaign for Fruit by the Foot revealing a penchant for precise casting to accentuate creative ideas. A return to more graphically inspired filmmaking with global brand GE is also of note.
Honest recently made a splash with their short flick Boob that screened at the SXSW Film Festival, a sinister comedic tale of a deranged breast that terrorizes people in a hospital.
“Once we saw the work at Savage and met the team we knew it was a really good fit,” explain Honest on joining the company. “Savage is focused on creating new and innovative work. So many companies say they do this – but Savage backs it up with a roster of talent and work that speaks for itself. We see this as an opportunity not only to do challenging work, but to also learn and grow as artists.”
The new signing follows recent award winning work from Dutch hybrid film collective PostPanic in the form of Year Zero. Created for the post-digital OFFF Festival in Barcelona, Year Zero is a mesmerizing cyberpunk short packed with brutal streetwise imagery that pushes complex perspectives on technology, urbanization and the collapse of the environment.
The chilling apocalyptic branding effort won a 2102 One Show Design Gold Pencil and is currently shortlisted for the upcoming Vimeo Awards and AICP Show at the MoMA in New York.
Burgetova has been working stateside for five years, bringing 20 years of experience to Savage, using a wide network of global contacts in the production market to satiate agencies’ continued anxieties over dwindling marketing budgets. Initially the Director of International Operations at Prague’s Stillking Films.
Since opening Savage in Prague and New York last year Burgetova has hit the ground running, producing inventive work for clients including Greenpeace, Philips, Foot Locker, Reebok, Nike, Pepsi, Kodak, Snickers, Mitsubishi, Vodaphone and Budweiser.
